“Half- devil and half- child.” (Doc F) Imperialism in Africa was during the 1800s, Africa was being taken over by European countries. The reason why they wanted Africa was because of all their natural resources. They took back all these raw materials to the factories to invent new things and made money off of it. The Africans were like slaves in their own home they had to do all the hard work for the Europeans. What was the driving force behind Imperialism in Africa? Imperialism had several driving forces behind it including economic and Ideological. However, the most important cause of imperialism was political.
One of the driving forces behind European imperialism was Economic. “Cotton” (Doc D) The cotton Europeans got from Africa was used to make fabrics. Being by the sea really can help benefit to gain more sea power. “When the German Reich centuries ago was at the peak of the states in Europe, it was number one in trade and sea power.” (DocB) This proves that staying along the coastal area can make them gain sea power. Political is basically about taking control over land to be able to gain more power. These countries tried getting as much land as possible to be able to get more power.
