Within society in the US, there is a separation between people based on income and how much money they hold. However, taking into consideration that since the moment a person is given life that they are set into the same class as their family, it shows that a key component to this prejudice is based around an uncontrollable factor. Still, as these people grow and begin to take control over their own lives, they should be able to surpass their previous limitations and gain equal opportunities with those who grew up in a wealthier community, right? But when they are unable to afford college because of their financial situation and have to get a career with just their high school diploma, an uneven distribution of money is given out. It is reasonable that people who go to college are granted a higher salary because they put more time into their studies. However, according to Crash Course Economics, over the years, the general income for college graduates has been increasing, while the general income for high school graduates is decreasing. This puts people of automatic lower income with another disadvantage. The video also brings up the fact that “The debate over income equality isn’t about whether it exists. It obviously does. The fight is over whether it’s a problem and what should be done about it.” Some could argue that there are many financial aid programs that allow students to get scholarships to help pay for their college education. And while this is true, it still does not beat out the stigma that people with ‘lower class jobs’ or that live in povertized areas are less than those who were lucky enough to come from a financially stable family. Also, even with financial aid, tuition costs are rising exceedingly fast, and has even grown 260% in cost over the past 30
