When the time in our lives that we have become mentally able and aware of how our society functions, it leads us to make and put filters over our sight and views of the world for what we think live as our beneficial reasons. In our lives, we experience that all choose what we want to see over what we need to see. In the story “Interpreter of Maladies”, author Jhumpa Lahiri elaborates about how even the smallest, inanimate objects can cause us to see the world in a whole, new perspective. Filters today all cause us to live in spite of what is real. Our minds would recognize each day distorted and living in the shade of some truths. The world today surrounded by the filters and distortions of our society restricts the certain aspects of our lives. This means it entails us to not see what bare necessities we should observe, but to rather see what our desires want us to recognize. In the “Interpreter of Maladies”, author Jhumpa Lahiri uses the motif of filters to prove the point that it causes mixed feelings and confusion amongst most. When a feeling cannot be reciprocated, our minds start to become closed off and live in the hardened state of not accepting what we don’t want to know. Our lives needs to live in help and openness with others. Closing off our starting or general opinions that are swayed by filters affects how this world would truly be functioning. This world needs to limit ourselves with the use of filters and the distorted views of life and
