Fleming’s storytelling skills and ability to perfectly create a book at the young adult level is a major factor in why it’s such a worthwhile read. Fleming felt a burning need to find the answer to what happened. Through her passion, she widened her perspective, read every single document there was, and even traveled to Russia to follow in the footsteps of the Romanov family to immerse herself in the great piece of literature she would then write. Candace Fleming is just like any other author. She loves to read and was a great storyteller from a young age. Fleming knew that she was a great storyteller and loved everything about English. This would be the perfect setting to be an author. Nevertheless, she decided to follow her other passion and majored in history when she went to college. This book mixes her two favorite things as she tells a fascinating page-turner of the history of the Romanovs. Throughout the reading, it is evident that Fleming tries to put little to no bias into her writing, but you can see her sympathizing with the Romanovs from the start to the end of the book, which may come from her knowledge of their brutal deaths. However, she maintains a balanced perspective, acknowledging both the strengths and weaknesses of the Romanovs. Even though she has a little bit of sympathy knowing the brutal death of the Romanovs, she never truly lets that get in the way of her analysis and writes it as
