Slide 24: Katharine Lucinda Sharp, Northwestern, became the sixth Grand President of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Katharine was also the founder and director of the Illinois State Library School. She was a definitive leader in library science. Slide 25: A widowed mother realized the importance of a college education for her daughter Virginia Gildersleeve, Barnard. Virginia initiated in 1896 and later became the dean of Barnard College. She was also the founder of the International Federation of University Women and was the only woman sent to help draft and sign the original United Nations Charter in 1945. Slide 26: Dorothy Canfield Fisher, Ohio State, became a world-famous author. She was one of the founders of the book-of-the-month club and brought the Montessori system of education to the United States. Slide 27: Having survived the anti-Fraternity movement of the 1880s, Kappa grew very quickly. By 1900, there were 37 chapters and 3,054 initiated members.
