The Sport of Lacrosse
The sport of Lacrosse is mainly known to be played in Canada and the United States, specifically, the east coast of the U.S. With that being said, the game of Lacrosse is slowly growing across the country with California being at the top of the list in terms of people participating in Lacrosse. As of the last couple of years the Midwest has become a hot spot for Lacrosse with Illinois and Ohio leading the charge in this region of the United States. While the growth has been impressive across young age ranges, the growth has not been limited to high schools or leagues for teens. Since the sport is still gaining popularity and doesn’t have one single league that is the clear leader of the sport there are a couple competitions that could take the spot for most elite. For example, the PLL has crowns a champion at the end of each season through their playoffs, and some may view this as the most elite level of competition. With that said, the National Lacrosse League also has a playoff period at the end of their season to crown the champion of their league. There is really no way of saying which league is better than the other, but these are two of the main playoff systems that come to mind when thinking about different lacrosse leagues. Like these leagues, the major series lacrosse league holds a similar playoff structure. On the world stage, there is a World Lacrosse Men’s Championship which is where the best of the best of teams travels from across the world to compete against each other. While this tournament is a good way of finding out who are some of the best lacrosse teams in the world are, the Olympics are also another important tournament for world lacrosse. Lacrosse was an Olympic sport in 1904 & 1908 and is on a list of sports to be considered for the 2028 summer Olympics. If lacrosse were to be added to the Olympics, the lacrosse tournament would take place every 4 years, while the rest of the playoffs and championships that were mentioned happen
