Not all Skills are Given, Some Must be Earned It all started when my best friends convinced me to play lacrosse with them, a sport they had been playing for years. A game in which most of them had the natural ability to play. At the time, I was more of a baseball guy. However, the majority of my friends had been playing lacrosse for years and wanted me to give it a shot. Unlike lacrosse I was naturally good at baseball. The first time I picked up a bat I had a great swing and I was dominate from the mound.
I still recall the first lacrosse tryout I ever went to. At Insports in Trumbull with the big ceiling fans blowing air down onto the turf. I was used to the helmet and pads because I had been playing football for years. But the bulky gloves

I got into a line with a bunch of my friends and the ball went back and forth perfectly a few times before it was my turn. I stepped up and instantly receive a rocket of a pass from a kid named Sean. Thankfully it went right into my stick without me having to move it much. I cradle once and the ball pops out. I scooped it up quickly, and threw a weak pass to the next person. Not so bad… I thought.
I jog to the other line and wait for my next turn. I feel my confidence rising as I go through a few more times without making any crucial mistakes. I’m up again. I see the ball coming into my stick. At the last second I flinch in the slightest and the ball hits off my stick right into my helmet then onto the ground. I hear a few chuckles from my friends behind me. I remember it only getting worse, when we switched to our left hands I couldn’t even get the ball to hit my stick.
I didn’t make the A-team that year and that upset me. Not having the ability to do something like throw and catch a lax ball made me mad. For the next year I played on the B-team, went to every practice, played in every game, and practiced at home in my free time. My experiences and dedication to the sport allowed me to improve greatly. I was able to enhance my skills enough to make the A-team the following
