Among all the countries in the world, the United States of America is one of the few countries that requires people to be twenty-one years old before legally being allowed to drink. Due to the fact that a majority of countries require citizens to be eighteen before drinking, there is a bit of controversy across the states as to whether the drinking age should be lowered to match the majority of the world. But what good is lowering the drinking age in the united states when the drinking culture has not changed and will not change simply because the law does? Before any discussion of the drinking age can even be hand, let us look at how we can influence teen drinking culture.

When involved with teenagers, both can have unwanted outcomes as well as damage to the body in some way. In the situation of sex, teens tend to have it regardless, but are never armed with the proper information to protect themselves from the harm sex can cause. With drinking, teens are told not to drink, but never heavily informed as to why and then drink regardless as they develop unhealthy relationships with alcohol. It seems as if habits are being developed—habits where you do not truly inform your children but instead just fill them with fear about something. But because of the united states history with alcohol, more specifically the raising of the minimum drinking age from Kennedy, drinking has a history of being done behind backs and behind closed doors. And though you cannot change a whole drinking culture overnight, you can change your families drinking
