As you will see I withdrew from Math 131 and then subsequently got a D grade the next semester. When it comes to math, I often face many challenges understanding every concept completely. When looking at my high school transcripts you will see that I got a D in algebra both semesters my freshman year as well as a D the first semester of Algebra 2 my junior year. My other math grades were A’s and B’s, the reason for this being the way that I learn. Some of those professors patronized me whenever I asked questions, went off on tangents while teaching, made mistakes while teaching because they were going ahead of the lesson plan instead of following it, which made me both unmotivated and confused.When I felt this way it was extremely hard to refocus and try and learn the …show more content…
I’ve found that in order for me to learn math effectively that I need to be able to follow the professor as they go, understand them and their writing clearly and give them my full attention. Along with making sure that the notes they’re giving us are in order and not jumbled around the board. Further, when I don’t understand the concept I need to seek out tutoring or online help such as Khan Academy or the online tutoring offered through Canvas. Since I have ADHD it is not always the easiest of tasks to give my full attention, but it's even harder to do when I feel discouraged. In college, there were periods where I was working around thirty hours a week and could not make adequate time in order to go to tutoring. But, there were also times where I chose not to go to tutoring because of how discouraged I felt which is my own fault because when I had the time I should have gotten help.
