In Medieval times weapons could range from two edged swords to catapults that could launch boulders at castle walls.One of the most prominent weapons during medieval times was the sword.”A sword is a long, edged piece of forged metal, used in many civilizations throughout the world, primarily as a cutting or thrusting weapon and occasionally for clubbing.” (Medieval Weapons and Armour, pg.2)The sword was used mainly in wars, and as stated in the quote used for thrusting and cutting.The different types of weapons include swords, daggers, knives, blunt hand weapons, polearms, ranged weapons, artillery pierriers(stone throwers), cannons, other siege weapons such as towers, battering rams, cats, weasels, falchions, and long swords.
Different situations called for different kinds of weapons. Some of the weapons invented would change the art of war in many years to come. The sword for example, is still used even today; maybe not in war, but for collections.

One thing Blacksmiths did to make more money was to use different materials in different weapons. In movies you often see wood and steel being used to create weapons. However, they use many other materials rather than just would and steel. Blacksmiths often used wrought iron which was also known as “black iron” or “black copper”. Black iron was the most common material to be used by blacksmiths because of its abundance, and it shaped a lot easier than other materials. With metals being in the mix wood weapons almost had disappeared because they took longer to make. Blacksmiths did although use steel. “Blacksmiths also used steel, a specific alloy of iron and carbon, to make weapons and armor.”Steel wore less easily and was stronger,more heat resistant, and was better than iron.
