You know what they say you are what you eat. In other words, the average diet affects the body in numerous forms. Most of the time, people eat according to their customs and culture. In my experience as Mexican American, realize my culture does not have a healthy diet. My culture cook different foods with corn, lard and flour. Corn and flour is utilized to make a variety of foods. My culture uses corn or flour for meals on a daily basis, some of the greatest unhealthy ingredients on the food charts. Furthermore, as for my American side, I enjoy eating pizza, hamburgers, pastas, potatoes and fried foods. According to research “processed meat consumption results in 67% increase in pancreatic” (Adams, 2005, p. 1), over those who consume little or no meat products. The productivity of American farms, uses chemical fertilizers and pesticides in their crops. Why are food products made this way and sold to consumers if it is so unhealthy? The problem makes food industries rich and consumers unhealthy, but they can get away with it. The average diet consumes these products on a daily basis. Food preservatives are added for three reasons, to preserve the natural characteristics of food, preserve appearance, and to increase shelf life. The entire nation is effected by the way foods are processed, even schools, hospitals. At this point it is out of our control, we deserve to eat healthy and prolong our lives. The food consumed matters tremendously. Not only do people have to be concerned about what you eat or what is in the food, how much you consume to. One of the greatest concerns in America is the obesity epidemic. Obesity is the number one cause heart diseases, stroke, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol in the United States.
