The Monster Maniacs Have you ever watched a movie or read a book in which friendly citizens turned on each other and created a mass destruction? Well, in the 1960 video, “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street,” by Rod Serling, and the 2003 video, “The Monsters are Due Maple Street,” by Rod Serling both created a mass destruction. In the 1960 video, the citizens on Maple Street believed that the reason of the power outage was because of an alien massacre. In the 2003 video, the citizens believed that it was terrorists that caused the power outage. All the power went out, including phones, lamps, and even the kid’s game boy. The parents quickly tried to start their car to pick up their children from a soccer game, but their car wouldn’t start. They started blaming the new people across the street, saying they were terrorists and they were the ones doing all this damage. So Dylan and Will went to go talk to the new people across the street, but they wouldn’t answer the door. Later that night, Dylan tried to convince the others into getting weapons and defending themselves thinking they were getting attacked. Before they knew it, they saw a car coming down Maple Street and it went into the new people’s garage. They also had electricity. Will went up to talk to them and he came back with information saying, “the family has an electricity plan that lets them have electricity in case of an emergency.” They found spy cameras on Dylan’s house. So the people of Maple Street listened to Dylan and burned down the house they thought were the tourists. In the end, it was the military trying a social experiment to see what normal citizens would do in case of a power outage. In the same way, the citizens in both videos had a unique fear. In the original video the fear of the power outage was because of aliens. In the 2003 video the fear was because of tourists. In the 1960 video the citizens of Maple Street had a theory that it was
