The United States of America has been within me since the day I dreamed of it, since the day I met Og Mandino’s University of Success. The American cultural mindset has been a piece of the puzzle that was missing in me. It has been a masterpiece that I wanted. I lived in it from afar, as the sky and the earth, and now the American cultural mindset has reached down inside me and taken root, as a seed buried into the ground rich in humus. I have been taught to hold firm to life. In the same collective cultural mindset, I have been taught that a man seems not to ‘‘be’’ in charge of his destiny, but God and gods are. We have been taught to believe in external-control philosophy. My hybrid cultural mindset is like the sea. All rivers go into the sea, yet the sea is never full as the full moon. That is, my hybrid cultural mindset has to flow as the sea not to be stagnant like water in the bowl. My hybrid cultural mindset is what I make of it. It is more than what is on the surface. It is also how I deal with it in effective, nobler, greater and grander way. It occurs to me that we as people evolve through cultural mindset. And no society and people have evolved without borrowing from other cultures, learning from other people’s experiences and being part of them in some way or another.
