When traveling the world every place has there own way of being unique. New Orleans is not an exception to this. This city is unique in many ways, however, the three ways that are outstanding to me are the style of the homes, and the people of the city, and how great their community worked together after hurricane Katrina to make New Orleans a better place. The houses in New Orleans are not the same as houses in other places around the world. Different types of houses that line the streets of the city are creole cottages, shotgun single, double shotgun, townhouses, double gallery houses, center hall houses, raised-basement houses, bungalows, etc. The shotgun home has been in New Orleans since the 1830s. Whereas some people stayed or returned after evacuation to rebuild and make New Orleans better than before. In the beginning the recovery was slow, there were so many obstacles that the people of the city had to face. The hurricane “lives in the flood lines that have stained the city like a bathtub ring that 4 1/2 years of scrubbing cannot remove” (Carpenter). Not even this constant reminder was enough to stop the people who wanted their city back to normal. The locals weren’t alone in the rebuilding of the city. Some celebrities such as Brad Pitt and his Make It Right foundation played a huge role in bringing New Orleans back to the great city we once knew. Also Harry Connick, Jr. who came up with the idea to build Musicians Village. This is a place in the city that provides about 80 homes for musicians and others. What really got the momentum going was the New Orleans Saints becoming Superbowl Champions. Even though this had nothing to do with rebuilding the city, it seemed to give the people the drive they needed to make the job
