What is Obamacare? According to recent article,What is Obamacare, published on The Balance, “The most important part of this Act requires you to have health insurance,” (as cited in Amaedo 2017). In 2010, President Barack Obama introduced the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The act requires an individual to hold health insurance for at least nine out of the twelve months of a year. If the individual does not acquire insurance, and 2.5% income tax will be imposed. However, there are certain requirements that can exempt one from Obamacare. From November to January of each year, the enrollment period for Obamacare is open. If one does not enroll during the allotted times, there are opportunities to obtain private insurance or, if you qualify, Medicaid. Policies enacted before Obamacare was implemented have been tenured in or are still offered through employers in most cases. If the plan does not meet the ten essential benefits, however, the individual must acquire a new plan. One of the first positive characteristics of Obamacare is that low-income and poverty-stricken families still have access to healthcare. First, I believe that it is unfair to force Americans to have health insurance in the first place. Just like it is your prerogative to choose whether or not you have cable, you should be able to choose whether or not you're going to insure yourself. In a perfect world, there is no reason to not have health insurance. Unfortunately, in today’s America, poverty-stricken families are not uncommon. For most of these families, health coverage was out of the budget. While Obamacare is working to make sure that everyone has access to care, it is also imposing on people's right to make their own decision. Forcing people to get insurance means disregarding financial
