In the American society one of the biggest health problems is obesity. Obesity is when the body carries twenty percent more body fat than it is supposed to, which is based off a person's weight and height or BMI. Another similar issue but not as common is being underweight. Underweight, also known as anorexia is when a person has a weight that is twenty percent lower than what it should be. Why is it that this has become a growing problem in America and not other countries? The numbers are increasing every year as a source from National Institute of Health (NIH) says 17 percent of children or young adults are obese, while the number is three times larger than a generation ago. The problem of obesity and anorexia in humans or young adults in the U.S could be because of their food choices, their parenting, school programming and environments. There are solutions and many people have overcome this problem by either seeing a nutritionist, getting help from a doctor or it might also be more difficult. The food in America or the environment in America, what is the reason to why only young adults are experiencing this problem in the U.S. The start of obesity was in 1980’s-2000’s and since then the numbers have doubled. In most schools, the vending machines are filled with sugary drinks, candies, and chips which could be a factor to obesity. In the article “High School Vending Machines May Contribute to Teen Obesity”it says,
