Introduction Americans are faced with the challenge of being overweight and many suffer from a diseases known as obesity and are considered to be one of the most obese nations in the world. Many reasons have been formulated to try and give the main reasons for this disease prevalence among the American citizens. Obesity results to chronic diseases which can result to a severe effect on several systems in the body. Being obese or overweight can lead to the development of life-threatening conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart diseases and bone and joint diseases. According to the U.S Surgeon General, obesity has reached an epidemic level in the United States (Alston & Okrent, 2017). It is estimated that 31 percent of men and 35 percent of women are believed to be overweight. Additionally, 15 percent of children ranging from ages of six and 19 are considered to be overweight. Officials from Public health has cautioned that lack of doing enough physical activities and poor eating habits are picking up to tobacco as a potential threat to the health of American citizens. Obesity causes are complex. There exist several interrelated factors, which include lifestyle, genetics and the one body uses energy. With an over 60 percent of American adults considered obese or overweight, a preventive measure is supposed to be taken. Obese people have a higher chance of developing cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes and furthermore, depression in children and teenagers as a result of obesity are on the rise (Alston & Okrent, 2017).
