Pace of play. This has been a huge issue in Major League Baseball (MLB) in the past few years and there have been several proposals on how to shorten the game length of America’s pastime. These proposals are greatly disagreed on as longtime fans love the length and pureness of the game. Newer generations of fans want these rules in place in order to get these “boring” games over with so they can get to the better places they need to be. The truth is that the new rules that are being proposed disrupt the flow of the game, and players are greatly opposed to the rules. Therefore, new pace of play rules should be limited in order to preserve the integrity of baseball and to keep the players happy.

One of these proposals is the pitch clock. The pitch clock is a timer placed in left-center field and behind the plate that lets the pitcher know when he has to be done warming up or deliver a pitch. If the pitcher does not adhere to this pitch clock, then a ball is rewarded to the hitter. It has been introduced to the minor leagues with some success, but between umpires not being strict on this rule and veteran players disobeying it, the games are still “monotonous”. The commissioner thinks that in the end it will be effective, but Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) executive director Tony Clark, and players, lacks that same optimism (Brink 2015). "Hear me very clearly on this one. When you add the third deck in the major leagues, when you add all the other moving pieces tied to a major league game, the idea that a particular rule in Double-A or Triple-A or Single-A or the fall league ... worked into the system there means that it will automatically work at the big leagues is not true." As the executive director of the MLBPA, Tony Clark holds a large voice in whether or not these rules will pass as he represents the players whom are ultimately being affected by these rules. If the players are not happy with the league, then it could lead to a bad product being put out on the field and even seasons
