This summer I read “Percy Jackson and the Olympians – The Lightning Thief” translated into German and written by Rick Riordan. The story is about Perseus “Percy” Jackson, a 12 year old who has dyslexia and ADHD. Percy lives in New York and often finds himself kicked out of school because of mysterious reasons. During a school field trip, Percy’s best friend Grover gets bullied by a girl named Nancy Bobofit. In the attempts to protect his friend, Percy tries to help but a fountain next to Nancy grabs her. Nancy blames this on Percy and tells the Pre-Algebra teacher, Mrs. Dodds. When Mrs. Dodds seperates Percy from the group to talk to him, she turns into a Furie and attacks him. Luckily, Percy’s Latin teacher, Mr. Brunner, throws Percy a pen that transforms into a sword when uncapped. With the new weapon, Percy kills Mrs. Dodds and goes back to the class. Ever since this incident, Grover and Mr. Brunner have been talking about him, and a mysterious stolen object. On the last day of school, Percy’s mother, Sally, brings him to the beach house where she and Percy’s father first met. However, a storm interrupts their vacation and Grover tells them to leave. When they escape, Percy finds out that Ares had the items all along. In the attempt to retrieve the items, Percy fights the God of War. Quite surprisingly, Percy wins and takes the helm and bolt. Ms. Dodds, who has been watching the entire time, comes and accepts the fact that Percy did not steal the items. In return, Percy gives her the Helm of Darkness, so that Hades will call off the war. Once Percy has the bolt, he travels to Manhattan and goes up to the 600th floor of the Empire State Building to Olympus. There, he returns the bolt to Zeus and explains the situation to all of the Gods and how Ares stole the
