Pericles proudly called Athens the “School of Greece.” Athens strived on many works, such like the Parthenon. In general, the Athenians made beautiful works of art, architecture, and philosophy. Which all grew after the Persian Wars to help restore its original beauty. This all occurring during the Age of Pericles. Art was a major importance during this age for the Athens. They created many works, some examples would be books, theater, and décor. One famous book that was written during this time would be the History of Persian Wars by Herodotus. Herodotus, the great historian of Periclean age is regarded as the ‘Father of History.’(Rana). Dedicated to Athena, the city's patron goddess… (Seán and Colette Hemingway). When this temple was finished being built, the architectural work was quite apparent. Many famous workers helped create the beautiful temple of this was “Pheidias, the famous Athenian sculptor, while Iktinos and Kallikrates were the architects of the building” (Graham). With multiple sculptures, “eight columns on each of the narrow sides and seventeen columns on each of the long ones” (Graham). Also, a few mythological scenes painted along the building as well. The Parthenon, though, was not the only temple or building create during the Age of Pericles. A few others made during this time era are the Erechtheion and the Temple of Athena Nike. The Erechtheion was “dedicated to the worship of the two principal gods of Attica, Athena and Poseidon-Erechtheus” (Graham). This building included a propylon to the north, a porch to the south, and a prostasis to the east. The Temple of Athena Nike was built with four columns surrounding the front entrance and marble walls around. Such architectural crafting skills were needed because without them, Athenians would have lost a large group of beautiful works and creations.
