Police Shooting Innocent Black People George Gunn, Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Terence Crutcher, these are just a few of the names of black men who were killed in high-profile police shootings in 2016. Police brutality is a big problem in the U.S. and it is causing a lot of protests and outbursts within the public. I think it's important to know the brutality that is taking place between black men and women and police officers. I feel that officers need better training so they’re better prepared for real life situations like this. If police officers think more before acting death rates could go down. Facts have shown Black people are more likely to get shot rather than whites. “Few police officers ever face a trial for shooting death, let alone are convicted,” (Madison Park). Even with evidence on videos, officers usually aren't held accountable for killing someone. “A report in 2015 found that approximately 1,200 people were killed by police, but no officers were ever found guilty of murder or manslaughter. In 2016 several officers have gone to trial, but none of them have received jail time,” (Joseph Williams). “Advocates for police reform say crime in black communities does not excuse police violence,” (Max Kutner). “99% of the cases in 2015 have not resulted in any officers involved being convicted of a crime.” (Mapping Police Violence) Police are killing black people at far greater rates than any other race. It causes a lot of protests and outbursts with the public and I believe it is wrong that cops usually are never found guilty of murder or manslaughter. I think that a lot of these shootings could be avoided if better training was provided for the officers to react with better judgment when faced with situations like
