Prescription drugs abuse occurs when you misuse your medication. It also occurs when you take medication that's not prescribed for you. The way prescription medication is taken by addicts is also problematic. Most resort to injecting or snorting pills so they can get high. Understanding Prescription Drugs Abuse Addiction is defined simply as occurring when a person continues using drugs or alcohol despite any problems these things cause in their life. It doesn't matter what type of drug you're using. When you can't stop using the drug, you're addicted. You're an addict who will eventually face withdrawal symptoms because your body is dependent on these drugs. This is why prescription drugs abuse is also possible. Most prescription drug addicts find themselves addicted to opioids. These are medications that create morphine-like effects. Other people find themselves addicted to central nervous system (CNS) depressants and stimulants. Doctors prescribe CNS depressants for insomnia. These include Triazolam (Halcion) and Estazolam (ProSom). Addicts like how these medications work, slowing their brain down. On the opposite end of the spectrum from the CNS depressants, stimulants exist. These increase your body's activity.
