There have been many presidents overtime with different objectives for this country. The office has gained power as time goes on. Presidents have increased this power by establishing checks and balances, and the power given to Congress. There have been some good presidents that made our Country great, but then there’s also the opposite. The great made our office strong and fearless. Presidents back then struggled with keeping every branch in line and trying to make everyone have the same amount of power. Checks and balances were created to make the government more organized, “Each House shall keep a Journal of its Proceedings” (Ball 2007, 547). If each house keeps a journal, it allows others to check up on them make sure everything they do is proper. The President has power over bills, “If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it” (Ball 2007, 548).
