How Race and Ethnicity Play an Important Part in Our Society? From the beginning of time, race and ethnicity have played important parts in our society. Race and ethnicity are commonly mistaken for the same meaning or understanding. The terms race and ethnicity is are defined as biological and sociological factors in a person. Race and ethnicity are usually seen in different views of society. Society looks at defining different groups and regions based on race and ethnicity. It is important to know what race is, what ethnicity is, how they are different, the roles that race and ethnicity play in society and how society defines race and ethnicity. What is race? Race refers to a person's physical characteristics, such as bone structures, color of skin, hair, or eye color. Race presume to have mutual biological or genetic traits. Racial differences were credited in areas of intelligence, health, and personality. However, the scientific basis of racial distinctions is very weak. Scientific studies show that racial genetic differences are weak except in skin color (Keita, L. 1999.). Racial categories effect from a shared genealogy due to geographical isolation.
