Racial profiling is the act of targeting individuals on the basis of observed characteristic or behavior. The current issue that has been plaguing America is racial profiling. This modern term is fairly new, in terms of being recognized is old in its ways. Racial profiling can be defined as method of stopping an individual because of the color of their skin and fleeting suspicion that the person is engaging in some sort of criminal behavior. Racism and stereotyping are issues that date back as far as time. Racial profiling in America is an issue that must be addressed by each branch of government, and in our social if we truly desire America to be truly “The Land of the Free.” One term that is widely used in the black community is called driving while black or dwb, for short. This is a term that is beginning to show itself more and more in the black community. In today’s’ society the perception I that most drug traffickers are minorities. Media coverage of this issue has begun to increase in the last few years on the increase of racial profiling. Within the past 6 months, front page stories editorials have appeared in every major national newspaper and many local papers. Even though media fascination with a problem doesn’t make it real or lack of media coverage doesn’t make a problem non-existent. Many news stories and statistical reports, the lawsuits and even recent action by the government, make a good argument that, “driving while black,” is not just an occasional problem. Racial profiling believe it or not is a huge problem among news media. Once media begins to cover a story about racial tensions and criminal activities most reporters report on the crime because of the race, and not so much as the crime
