When someone asks you what is a setting in a story the first thing that will pop in your mind is that it tells the time place of the story, but it’s much more than that. A setting is a literary device that authors use to create a mood or provide clues about the inner character's life. Having a setting in a story is very important ,without it it has no meaning. A setting tells a lot about a character and their lifestyle and habits, without it we won't know much about the Protagonist in the story. A setting is like a mirror to a character, it defines the characters emotional behavior and actions. He thought he was so tough, strong and wasn't afraid of anything. The setting here compels the character to go kill the dinosaur because he thought he was brave enough to do so. The setting creates a negative reaction because once Eckles sees the huge, hair- raising dinosaur he gets so scared and actually run away on the wrong path and hids. The environment here makes the character realizes that he's not so brave, tough, and strong as he thought he was, ”I've met my match and admit it. This is too much for me to get hold of." As a result it makes the character have epiphany in one's self. “ It towered thirty feet above half of the trees, a great evil god, folding its delicate watchmaker's claws close to its oily reptilian chest,” the author here uses visual imagery to make you imagine how big and scary the dinosaurs might have looked. Just like in the story “Araby” the setting mirrored on the characters internal reality negatively. When the Huge and intimidating dinosaur showed up in the setting it mirrored to the character and had a negative reaction which was he go so scared he ran away on the wrong path.
