The family life is very important to the Sewertarians as well. Almost all Sewertarians practice monogamy and stay married to the same partner for life. A nuclear family is considered to be these two partners and however many children they may have. The parents are also encouraged to take an active part in their children’s education. There is no formal school to send children too, instead young Sewertarian children take on apprenticeships at the age of 8. These apprenticeships include working with master hunters, gatherers, and medics. The apprenticeship lasts for 6 years, except for the medic which takes 10-20 years to finish. This is one of the reasons why medics are usually older and fairly rare. The young Sewertarians also have the option of jumping into the workforce as a laborer at the age of 12. Nearly all of the young and even many of the elders are afraid to visit the medic as it often leads to bad news, and in turn the citizens of Sewertaria have biopower. This biopower includes wearing protective suits in the sewer water, practicing safe sex, and regulation of Sewertarian customs. …show more content…

However, recently there has been unrest among the Sewertarians. The different races of Sewertarians have been treating each other with prejudice, because New York Sewertarian’s believe they are the best race of Sewertarians. New York’s Sewertarians believe that they are superior to other races because they were the first ones in Sewer. This has led to the discrimination of other groups of Sewertarians including Boston Sewertarians and Chicago Sewertarians. This discrimination includes refusal the New York Sewertarians refusing to give medical care to a Boston Sewertarian leading to his death. Had this Boston Sewertarian received health care he may have survived. however, the New York Sewertarians believe they have “pure” Sewertarian blood and cannot interfere with others that are not of pure
