Throughout the past few years, countless arguments have been made regarding if college athletes should get paid. Dismissing the Name, Image, and Likeness deal (NIL) and how athletes receive compensation for that matter, they do not obtain money like a salary. Despite the fact that the athletes are the ones who agree to continue their sport at an advanced level with the knowledge of no pay, they should at least gain a slight amount of income before, during, and after their season. These athletes play for the NCAA, National College Athletic Association, and they draw in a great deal of revenue, but do not acquire the same in return along with their effort, drive, and enthusiasm. High school athletes may get an offer to continue their sport, and a partial reason for the zero desire to commit to college is because of the no pay. If the college offers some sort of compensation, more athletes would sign to play at a major university and the percentage of athletes would grow even higher than it is currently. Universities consistently seek qualified and hard working athletes, but they are never able to demonstrate an action to prove the appreciation and realization of their commitment. High school seniors typically are at the ages between sixteen and eighteen, and at that young age, the only thing that truthfully crosses their mind is how long the hours and work will be for their sport. Athletes will have questions upon how it goes about, like why not be able to get paid? The image of a high schooler’s mind almost revolves around money; they think of college to be their next step, but in addition to the added work, is the added practices and how much time they will devote towards the sport - it is a drastic change in hours from high school to college.
