“A long time ago in a galaxy far far away…” These words capture the screen on the opening scroll of Star Wars, but more importantly, represent a great deal of significance to me, in both my past and my current state. Space ships, swords, heroes and villains; It was every little boy’s wildest fantasy. For as long as I can remember, Star Wars has been one of my favorite movies. I have vivid memories of the film, even as a toddler. The film encompassed just about everything I enjoyed as a kid: action, suspense, heroism, and betrayal. I would consistently watch the movie multiple times a week, never losing enjoyment. As I have grown older, this movie has become something much more to me. I now view the movie from a much different perspective than I did as a kid. Although the nostalgia will always remain, it is insignificant compared to the other factors that now influence me. At 17 years old, I watch the movie incorporating everything I have experienced in my life. All the developments, relationships, lessons, and failures of my life influence my interpretation of the movie more than anything. Instead of viewing “the force” as just something capable of moving objects and creating lightning, I now see it much differently; from a more philosophical point of view. When protagonist Obi-Wan says of the force, “it surrounds us and penetrates us: it binds the galaxy together,” I have been inspired to connect these words to my own galaxy and the people of my own planet. I am prompted to believe that every living thing on this Earth exists for a reason; we are all connected by some way shape or form, or maybe even a force. I am not saying that I believe in the things that come from the movie, but I do believe that the movie induces me with opportunities of analysis of my
