Stephen Louis Sax, also known as Steve Sax, is a former American second baseman in Major League Baseball, MLB. He made his debut as a Los Angeles Dodger (Wikipedia, 2015). Sax was born in Sacramento, California on January 29, 1960. He has been a resident of Northern California almost all of his life. He returned to Northern California after offseason and when his baseball career came to an end. Sax grew up in a household of five children in which his competitive nature and will to excel was adopted. He has always been a lifelong skilled athlete. He was drafted into the MLB by the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 6, 1978 in the ninth round of the Amateur Draft (Wikipedia, 2015). Sax was a great baseball player stealing 40 bases six times in career. He is known as one of the most aggressive runners in the league. He had 444 stolen bases with his highest peak of 56 stolen bases in 1983 (The Baseball Page, 2012). Sax is a five-time All-Star. In 1982, he was named "National League Rookie of the Year"(SteveSaxSpeaks, 2014). Steve was a key element in the team's winning two World Series on the defensive side. He later played for the New York Yankees from 1989 to 1991 and went to play for the Chicago White Sox and Oakland A’s. Also during his career, he was a higher-up in the Players Association. He spoke out that the major league players should not assist anyone who was a replacement player during the 1994 Major League Baseball strike and that such players should be denied pensions by the union. He became focused on fitness and became a sponsor for athletes to form teams, post local events, and find places to play. Momentarily in 1996, he ran for a seat in the California State Assembly 5th District before dropping out of the race because of his publicized divorce (Wikipedia, 2015). In 2001, Steve began to help individuals manage their finances as Vice President of Investments for the Royal Bank of Canada. He later became an author. He published a booked called SHIFT, a motivational and inspirational book for athletes (SteveSaxFoundation, 2014). In December of 2012, he became the first base coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Unfortunately, Sax was fired from the Diamondbacks on October 8, 2013 (Wikipedia, 2015).
