Baslik Before coming to college, I was at a bookshop looking for a book to read and a guy was asking for a book called The Alchemist. It was the first time I’ve seen this book and wondered what it was about. The strange thing was after two days, Jasmin, my SAT tutor, gave me The Alchemist as a reward of accepting into college. My first thought was this cannot be real because what are the chances of getting this book out of all the options and just after two days. So, I thought there has to be a reason of getting this book and I read it right away. Consequently, I was right about my instinct; it truly impacted my life. The book indicated that everyone has a personal legend; although, some settle for what they already have or just too afraid to go beyond their comfort zones. One lesson I learned from the main character Santiago was that he did not settle for his old life and went abroad in search of something much greater for himself, his dream. By giving up his old life, he picked the harder option, which was same as walking into a dark path where he did not know how to find his way out. …show more content…

Before reading this book, I had anxieties and many questions that were impossible to predict such as what if I cannot be happy here. Yet, I had a little enlightenment the day I finished the book, which later altered the course of my thinking. It started out just like another, mundane day; but while getting closer to finish the book, I could feel something inside me was changing. Sitting in my bed, I was no longer feeling scared but mostly curious of what life will bring me in the US. At the same time, I was amazed how life can suddenly throw me something very useful, such as this book, to help me achieve my goal just like in the book. Thus, I was determined to overcome my fears in order to start a fresh and free life as a college
