I hope you had an entertaining and relaxing summer. As a part of my AP Language summer assignment, I was required to read The Boys In The Boat. I must admit I am not a heavy reader, initially I was not excited but after I grooved myself into the book I found it it to be very entertaining. I enjoyed most aspects from The Boys In The Boat but the thing I liked most was the relationships between the characters. The characters were dedicated, persistent, and hard working. Most of all I liked the attention author Daniel James Brown put on teamwork and control. This brought me to think of my physical education class and the relationships similarities between my classmates and I and the characters in the book. The first similarity that struck me was teamwork. In The Boys In The Boat the oarsmen and the coxswain use teamwork to secure the gold medal in the 1936 Olympic games. In The Boys In The Boat the coxswain had control over the boat no matter what. The oarsmen trusted him in control and trusted all of his calls no matter what. This also relates to my P.E. Class in the way of trusting and allowing someone to take control and lead. As stated before in my P.E. Class we are grouped many times into different teams and it no matter the activity we are doing the winning team always has someone who takes control. Now this person who takes control doesn’t just boss people saying “do this”, “do that”, they lead and respect every member of the team as they know everyone has an important job. This is a prime representation of the coxswain. From this book readers can learn when to control, how to take control, and when to sit back and let someone else take control. I must admit I am guilty of not wanting to let someone else take control, but when I have done that and trusted them to the max I have seen an immense amount of success like the 1936 Olympic Gold Medal
