People regardless of their social status , financial standing, or life experiences are susceptible to corruption, selfishness, and misjudgment and for this reason are in need of an impartial government. However, what guides a government and keeps it from making these mistakes or guards it so that it doesn't overstep its bounds? In the case of the government of the United States of America the answer is a constitution. The Constitution of the United States of America is the framework and reference of government and covers many essential issues regarding representation, elections and laws. The Virginia Plan is most in favor of a national government with a bicameral legislature. On May 13th of the convention Randolph declared an amended version of his Virginia Plan that would transform the government into a national government rather than federal. Edmund Randolph proposed, “A national government, consisting of a supreme legislative, executive and judicial.” and declared “A union merely federal will not accomplish the objects proposed. (Randolph 41,43) Edmund Randolph insinuated that a federal government was no longer suitable and alternatively a national government should take its place. This form of a national government, consisting of the three branches, is found in the constitution and was originally instituted by the Virginia Plan. The Virginia Plan helped shaped the way the United States government works today. Without it the government might have failed due to state separation or an overuse of power.
