The Cuban missile crisis or also better known as the October Crisis was one the treacherous occurrences in human history. This tragic event took place in October of 1962 and was a direct and dangerous confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. U.S discovered missile siting when a spy spotted the site. For 13 tense days, the U.S and the Soviet Union was both anxiously waiting to see which of the two would make the first move. Kennedy was then informed by the air force about the discovery. Kennedy had many options to choose from. The cold war inarguably the closet the world has come to a global thermonuclear war. Once Castro (Cuba Revolutionary leader) heard about the rumors he then demanded the U.S to “cease Cuba airspace (i.e suspend all surveillance flights), lift not merely the blockade but also the long-standing economic embargo against Cuba, terminate subversive activities, prevent what Castro called The “piratical attacks” of others and close down the naval base at Guantanamo. (pg 85 lines 3-6). This made everyone believe that Cuba actually was hiding the Soviets nuclear weaponry. Castro’s actions brought even more awareness to Cuba and the soviets than it already had because United States leaders no longer had to assume if the rumor were actually true because they now had something to go off of. Castro complains or better known as the “Five Points” were indeed real issues, but were later ignored by both the Soviet Union and the United States. Appalled by the actions of Kennedy and Khrushchev action he still played a key role in Kennedy’s and Khrushchev agreement. The one advantage Castro had on the others was that he could “thwart” international inspections, which was a major provision of Kennedy-Khrushchev
