Speeding is defined as driving past the posted speed limit or driving too fast for the road’s conditions. Believe it or not speeding is the third leading cause factor in vehicle crashes. On average, more than 33% of car accidents are caused from not abiding by the proper speed limit. Speeding comes in only second to alcohol as the top factor in vehicular incidents. Speeding can cause you to get a ticket which is expensive and time consuming, increase your insurance price, put your life and others lives in harm’s way, but most importantly it is against the law. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducted research after many states raised their interstate highway speed limits in 1996 and found that motor vehicle fatalities increased. Evading the dangers of speeding increases a driver’s ability to take and adjust to curves or objects in the roadway. A driver should consider road conditions, weather and road design and slow down when those change. It is easier to lose traction when speeding around a curve and the high center of gravity makes it easier to roll over.
