Contrasting Regions of New England and Chesapeake The English colonies in the New England and Chesapeake regions were settled by English colonist, but evolved into very distinct and different societies. The disparities can be seen across the two contrasting involve the demographics, governments and societies. The New England colonies came to settle religious communities while Chesapeake colonization was based on making a profit. The modest difference in how they formed was the driving force in the disparity that developed between the two. The contrasting regionalization was fostered by the motivation that established them, the unique demographics of the people, the distinct governments and the distribution of wealth across the society. The New England government showed a balance in authority, where there was an effort for everyone to benefit. While the government in the Chesapeake region was strictly focused on the economic advancement of the nobles, investors and company representative. The leaders of the region didn’t care about the wellbeing of the workers and slaves; they only cared about the product harvested and the profit to be made. The colonies in the Chesapeake region also cared little about trying to be independent rather they relied heavily on the authority of the King to oversee the colonies and the investment of the companies in the new World. When Governor Berkley got worried about the safety of the nobles and himself, they imposed the King’s authority over Virginia to repel any rebellion or disagreements amongst the people.
