*Insert legit hook/intro* The “Glass Castle” is narrative of a young girl growing up in an extremely dysfunctional family of four children lead by a drunk and irresponsible father accompanied with a lazy and neglectful mother. Jeanette Walls tells a story about her experience growing up in. But with a determined and hardworking person like Jeanette, she was able to build up her life despite her corrupt family life and limited resources. I felt like I was beside her as she overcame her obstacles, climbing higher, all the way to New York, where she found her calling in life. My suspicions were promptly confirmed when he claimed that they should have taken her to a witch doctor, instead of these “heads-­up­-their-­asses med­-school quacks” the day she got burned. After all those crazy years of doing the “skedaddle”, and putting up with her parents, I gained a new respect for Jeanette and her siblings. Amazingly, in spite of their situation, their love and loyalty to each other in the midst of their hardships kept them close. Instead of growing up to be like her parents, she took control of her own life and steered it in the direction she wanted to go in. Jeanette was aware that with determination and responsibility, she would be able to overcome the challenges in her life. In a way, the neglect of her parents may be the reason why she turned out so successful. Though her parents raised and educated her, they are not the ones who determine how she chooses to live her life. Jeanette choose to live out her life as a writer. Throughout her narrative I was constantly struck by how determined and hardworking she was. Her dad especially built up her personality and her knowledge. It may have not been the most effective nor safe way to raise a child, but you have to admit, he did try to be there for his children.
