The Glass Castle is based on a true story that the lovely author Jeannette Walls lived through. Throughout her life Jeannette has only known her father Rex Walls as abusive and non-caring. As much as she tried to convince herself that he was going to be a changing person and better himself for his kids. he failed that task. Wall's experience with her father is the main purpose of this novel. The title “The Glass Castle” came from her father telling her to trust him that everything he is doing is going to be worth it. He was going to build her a glass castle. The castle would represent memories and all the hard work they have been through. As we can conclude, the castle was never built. It was all a metaphor. I chose this quote because it shows how Jeannette's father lied to her and gaslighted her into thinking he was going to stop drinking. There was a part in the book where he promised her he was going to stop for her. It all came down to a lie. Rex's attitude and activities that he did negatively impacted Jeannette's life and helped her in writing this novel today. All he ever cared about was himself, and that did not help him in the end. The next evening, Dad disappeared. After a couple of days, he wanted me to go out with him again to some bar, but I said no. Dad got ticked off and said that if I wasn't going to team up with him, "the least I could do was stake him pool-- shooting money." I found myself forking a twenty, and then another in a few days. Mom has told me to expect a check in early July for the lease on her Texas land. She also warned me that dad would try his hand at it. Dad actually waited at the front of the hill for the mailman and took it from him the day it arrived (Walls 214).
