The Institute of Medicine (IOM) Reports that to transform the health care system to safe, excellent and optimal health to individuals, nursing education must be improved before and after nurses received licenses. The Future of Nursing: Leading change, Advancing Health, they must have the highest level of education when they enter the field of nursing and have an ongoing advanced education throughout their nursing career. (IOM and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation 2008). The IOM reports that since the population is living longer, there are more complex chronic illnesses, more severe sickness; nurses are filling more expanded roles, being managers, making instant decisions. Also, there is an increase in the use of technologies. For nurses to meet this demand they must be highly trained for these jobs. …show more content…

Nurses with their Bachelors straight from universities joining the residency programs are given an excellent way of gaining clinical skills from the senior practicing nurses and this will help them to perform to their optimal level when working on their own.
