1. What is the Latino paradox? Why does it exist?
a. The Latino paradox was identified by researchers in the 1960s and it notion that Latino immigrants of lower income and education has low rates of mental health issues compared to whites who has higher education and income. Relocating to a new country can be stressful, but Latino immigrants who relocate to the U.S. have better health overall than those who stayed behind. The video states that it could be due to the strong family bounds that the Latino culture has.

Social support is when an individual when feel like they are loved, like there are people available to help them and support them at any given time. For example, having family or community members who are always willing to help you reach your goal. Social exclusion is when an individual has no access to resources or opportunities that are accessible to another individual from a different group. An example of social exclusion is when an African American child is excluded from going on his school trip but his Latino friend isn’t. Social exclusion can lead to Social isolation. When a person is being excluded from having access to resources or opportunities, they can isolate themselves from their family, friends and community. There are lots of churches in my community and many residents in the area go to church. Going to church is a great way meet people with the same interest. The church members are extended family and there are different activities in the church that bring the members closer.
