Crash is a film about the racism found in our culture that every race uses against each other. The movie focuses on racism towards Latino, Persian, Black, and Asian cultures. Throughout the movie, different races of people are shown in their everyday lives and are presented in situations where they express what they feel or how they think towards other races. The movie revolves around characters who are all connected in one way or another, through business or work. The creative process of filmmaking was shown in this film through the character development of the racist white police officer, Mr. Ryan, and through the intense and powerful dialogue written in the script. Ryan also encounters a situation where he pulls over a black couple and makes them step outside their vehicle to search them for no other reason than because they are black. He searches the woman with the intention of sexually harassing her body. He feels her up and down and even goes to her crotch “searching” for anything illegal. He does this all while the woman’s husband watches and knows that he cannot do anything to stop it without being discriminated against even more than they already were. Later in the movie (the next day), Mr. Ryan pulls up to a car accident where a woman is trapped underneath a vehicle that is about to explode. He goes into action and realizes that the woman he is trying to save is the same black woman who he sexually assaulted the night before. She screams and insists that she does not want his help, saying “Don’t touch me! Don’t touch me!”. He sees the fear in her eyes, and for the first time in the movie Mr. Ryan shows sympathy for the woman, not seeing the color of her skin but seeing her true self and her fear. He saves the woman, but he also saves himself and learns that he can be a better man if only he refused to see the color of a person’s skin, and chose to see who they really were. The character development that this character shows is very creative and unique because he had no hope in the beginning but left the audience believing that he could change for the
