When Sue Monk Kidd, the author of “The Secret Life of Bees” wrote this book, you can tell she really put thought into creating all the characters and what their personalities would be like. Each and every one of the characters has an astonishing personality but out of all of them, I think my favorite would have to be August Boatwright. August Boatwright, carries so much knowledge around, she has an amazing personality, she’s kind caring, non-judgemental, and is so smart. In the time the story takes place, it was very rare that Women owned businesses, much less black women- when you really hear the things these women do, it’ll amaze you, such creativity. August carries pride around, but most of all she carries love around, that’s one of my favorite things about her. I strongly admire her for looking at a world full of negativity and learning to turn it into positivity. I admire her for loving the small things, whether it be the small traits in people or the small details carved into the little place we call, earth. It comes from years of loving children and husbands.” This quote had a strong impact on me personally, which is why I love August so much. When she was talking of her grandmother, it really hit close to him, where I come from, who come from is so appreciative for what they have and who they have. My family doesn't take anything for granted and when people ask them about their past of their family’s past they’ll be straightforward with you, but like August who isn't judgmental, they look past the bad details and look at the importance of things.
