Is voting for a third party a waste of a vote? In my opinion, no it’s not. America is a democracy and in a democracy, people have many rights. One of these rights is the right to vote. It is definitely one of the most powerful rights which authorizes a citizen to choose a candidate for office. The candidates running for office are grouped into different political parties with different views. The two major parties that everyone is familiar with is the Democratic and the Republican parties. But we can’t forgot that there are third parties in the political system that contribute to politics and elections. The two third parties running in this 2016 election are the Libertarian party and Green party. Third parties are important to American politics and so there is no reason why a voter should be ashamed or consider it a “waste” to vote for them.

This means that if third parties can’t win an election, votes in favor of them would still have a heavy impact on politics in terms of the two major parties; if 10% or more polling is accumulated on the election day, it would threaten the two major parties. It would make them strategize a plan to get Libertarians on their side. But in doing so, they would adopt some Libertarian policies and views which could make the parties better and more representative for other voters.
