New research showed an experimental device that may help people with tinnitus. Tinnitus is a perception of noise or ringing in the ears, a symptom of an underlying health condition. It is a common problem in one out of five people in the world. People with tinnitus often hear noises in their heads that has nothing to do with any psychiatric condition. The noise can also be head in one or both ears and may be described as a constant ringing, buzzing, or whistling sound for 24 hours a day. The irritating noise is inaudible to anyone because there is no real source of the sound. Even though the person suffering from tinnitus can hear it solely, it is not an indication of imagination or insanity. Other possible causes include exposure to noise, diseases, drugs, stress, and head injuries. An estimated 45 million Americans are suffering from tinnitus, according to the American Tinnitus Association. The Deutsche Tinnitus-Liga in Germany estimates that 19 million Germans are struggling with the condition, while the British Tinnitus Association estimates about 10 percent of the UK population have tinnitus. This condition can happen to anyone as a result of noise exposure, such as being in a concert, but it normally disappears after a few
