Why should a man who involuntarily killed thousands of Indian people be honored in America? Andrew Jackson was the 7th president. He was born March 15, 1767. He grew up in South Carolina. Later,he became known as the hero of the Battle of New Orleans. In 1824 he ran for president and lost. Then in 1828,won and became our 7th president. Since he became president, he has been on our $20 dollar bill. Some people think he should be removed. Some people think he should be removed. Andrew Jackson should not be on the $20 bill because his actions involuntarily killed 4,000 people, he ignored congress, and caused the panic of 1837. First, through his actions Andrew Jackson killed 4,000 indians. When Andrew Jackson was president, he passed the Indian Removal Act. This act moved anyone Indian on the East of the Mississippi River to be moved to the west of it. This caused the trail of tears which moved 16,000 indians over 300 miles. On this trip 4,000 of them died by the time they got to Ohio (which was the new Indian territory). Because he did this, he is responsible for the death of 4,000 people. In the article Worchester v Georgia from pbs.org is says in the 1820s and 1830s, Georgia conducted a relentless campaign to remove the Cherokees. Then Marshall Worcester took Georgia to court. Congress voted in favor of Worcester. So technically no one could move them off their land. Andrew Jackson didn't listen to congress and when the Indian removal act was passed, he moved them off their land.Andrew Jackson did what he wanted to and didn't listen to anyone else. When you are the president and you don't listen to other people only yourself. your are not doing your job right.
