Organizations want to continue to control the exploitation of athletes for their own benefit. Student athletes will want to work more and perform better if you pay them a portion of what they contribute to college sports programs. Student athletes will work more during practices and games, just like you would if you were working a job for which you were paid. One of the reasons why college athletes aren't getting paid is because of the guidelines that are meant to protect the athletes status as students. In basketball many of the best athletes are actually choosing to take the non-traditional route and go straight to the Nba G league for better competition and really good pay. In 2020 Nba player Jalen Green signed a one-year, $600,000 contract with the NBA G League team Ignite at 18 years old. That type of money is unheard of for college athletes, it's not even close. If the NCAA starts paying their athletes better players would commit to colleges instead of the Nba G league. Also that even the larger colleges in the NCAA won't be able to support all of their athletes financially. What these people must realize is that every athlete can’t make the same amount of money. For the more popular sports they should get more money and for the less popular sports they should get less. That's like the same argument that WNBA players should be paid as much as an NBA player when that can't happen because WNBA players don't generate as much money as the average NBA player. College athletes bring in tons of money for their school. College athletes dedicate their time and risk their health for their sport and earn a lot of money for their school. On average each college athlete brings in about $59,429 for their school a year. Division 1 schools total revenue from athletics was $15.8 billion in 2019. if college athletes were paid at the same rate as professional players in the NFL and NBA (50% of the team's income). A college football player would make about $360,000 a year and a college basketball player would make about $500,000. Not saying they should make that much but atleast a fraction of that would be appreciated since college athletes are bringing in tons of money. They should be getting at least some of the money the schools are getting off of them. It's not fair for them to be putting all this effort into
