I am one of the souls who decided to pursue my academic passion in college (American History) rather than pick a major that would help prepare me for a career (there is, of course, nothing wrong with people who did choose that path). I see my passion for History turning into a teaching position one day; but immediately after college I see my dream job being one where I work with a team creating new ideas to represent a company, market a new product, or communicate between different corporations. If possible, I would love a job that would allow more time for pleasure reading as well.
I want to come away from my internship with an understanding of what working for a passionate corporation is like. I am confident that my work in the classroom and on the floor of my store and restaurants has been beneficial to me, especially for working in group settings. I love working for restaurants because I have made amazing friends with my coworkers. I learned how important it is to delegate the workload, ask for help, and to deliver quality service. I also learned that it sucks to mop the floor of the kitchen, but if it’s your job then you have to do it. In school, my life is a cycle of research, read, and write. It has become a treasured experience for me. The best grade I’ve ever gotten in College was a B in my Antebellum America class because I poured my heart and soul into my research paper about social movements. Only to have my professor say I did an “amazing job!” and give me a B+. I knew her standards were high when I started the class and I’m proud of my work done. I know how to spend time on projects.
