Don’t just seize the day- seize every hour, every minute, and every second. Seize every moment to meet new people, travel, learn and to discover new experiences. It may be scary, but what is scarier is having regrets. What if one opportunity could change your life? As a German-American, I have always been surrounded by two different cultures this shaped the individual that I am today. I am an open-minded person, always open to new ideas and curious to learn. In high school, I was in the international Baccalaureate Program and worked hard to graduate with two years worth of college credit. Over that summer, I obtained my TEFL certifications to teach English abroad. During my gap year, I taught English in Costa Rica, China and Germany. I was immersed in many cultures and saw the effects of globalization in terms of economic development, which varied across the different countries. Personally, I have been fascinated with Korean culture since a young age. My father was in the military and stationed in Korea in the 1980s, and he would tell me many stories about his experience. As I grew older, my curiosity grew. I began watching Korean Dramas and learning more about Korea through my college courses. Before I knew it, I found myself fascinated with a place and culture I’ve never even seen before. Thus, in the Fall of 2016, I applied and was accepted to study abroad at Yonsei University. While in Korea, I took advantage of the Intensive Korean language course, since Korean is not a language offered by my home university. On the weekends, I explored Seoul and the surrounding countryside. Korea is such a beautiful country and it reflects in the friendliness of its people.
