My company is YMCA.

Property Loss Exposure – YMCA is susceptible to property loss exposure. Not only just its “real property” (such as buildings, gyms, pools, classrooms, summer camps, etc.) but its equipment (weights, classroom furniture, pool chemicals, etc.) is also susceptible to theft/damage. Members must be “safeguarded from physical assault, theft of personal property from lockers, to protecting a person’s privacy.” (Guidebook – YMCA Risk Management) Considering that the gym, pool, baseball fields, etc. all are a large source of income for the YMCA to continue operations, maintaining their functionality would be a key goal in their risk management plan. Even flooding or a natural disaster could have devastating resulting in a property loss for the YMCA.

Liability Loss Exposure – The YMCA is extremely susceptible to liability loss exposure because it is unique of the type of business that it operates. Not only does it run a gym, but also offers daycare, swimming lessons, summer camps, and many other activities. In term of liability loss exposure, lifeguards and child care workers are susceptible to claims of sexual assault or other wrongdoings. Also, slips/trips/falls are always a main cause for concern in any gym environment. The possibility for someone to get hurt, or need medical assistance is high. Still, employees are exposed to the possibility of being let go. Employees are also exposed to pool chemicals, which can cause harmful health effects in both the long and short term. Also, in the gym environment, anytime that large amounts of weights need to be moved or lifted, there is a chance for severe injury.
