Decisions of Love “Wisely and slow; they stumble that run fast”. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a great tragedy. It gives us a message to not rush love and think before you act. The deaths of Romeo and Juliet were caused by Romeo, Juliet and Friar laurence. Romeo is impulsive. He has overly sensitive emotions and he is narrow minded and has tunnel vision. Juliet is also at fault because she was rushing and her eyes was only on Romeo. Friar was last but not least at fault, he did everything in secrecy and did not tell the houses. To begin with, the death of Romeo and Juliet was caused by Romeo. He is impulsive and has very sensitive emotions. On page 468, Romeo says “Then I defy you, stars!”. She is also impatient with her decisions. She rushes Romeo to marry her, and impulsive like Romeo. On page 407, Juliet states “Three words, dear Romeo, and good night indeed. If that bent of love be honorable, Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow, By one that I’ll procure to come to thee”. This shows that Juliet is too hasty and does not consider what effects could happen. This also shows that Juliet is very obsessed with Romeo. She just met Romeo a week ago, meaning she has no experience of love. Not only, “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I'll no longer be a Capulet.”. This illustrates, Juliet is expressing her desire for Romeo. This happens even though they both have feuding families. This also shows, Her impulsive nature is evident in her willingness to reject her family’s name for Romeo’s sake and love. He kept everything in secrecy and submitted to Romeo’s and Juliet’s demands. Friar Laurence says in Act 5,Scene 3 “Stay not to question, for the watch is coming. Come, go,good Juliet. I dare no longer stay.” This shows that Friar Laurence did not tell Juliet the clear understanding of the Situation with Romeo dead. This also illustrates, Friar Laurence rushes her to leave, contributing to the confusion for Juliet and there is lack of communication between Friar and Juliet. In addition, Act 4 Scene 1, “Take thou this vial, being then in bed, and this distilled liquor drink thou off; When presently through all thy veins shall run A cold and drowsy humor; for no pulse shall keep his native progress, but surcease.” This shows that Friar Laurence gives Juliet a vial containing a potion made for death like sleep. This plan is risky and reckless. This also illustrates, The potion makes Juliet look dead. This deceives her family and puts her life in danger. As a result, Friar Laurence is at fault because of lack of communication and risky
